#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #

Today on 24th December 2024 we are celebrating the birth centenary of the legendary singer Mohd Rafi. He was born on 24th December 1924. On this occasion we are presenting songs sung by Mohd Rafi. Initially I was looking for Rafi songs remaining to be posted from the decade of forties i.e. 1941-1950 and I decided that later on I will move simultaneously 50s to 80s. I even had couple of movie-titles noted for this purpose. However it so happened that the songs I presented so far are the songs from movies where Rafi Saab had sung only one song or a movie like ‘Alakh Niranjan’ which have more than one Rafi song, but none of these was posted still on the blog. As the day progressed we saw Rafi songs from the decade of ‘sixties’ and ‘seventies’ have already come up. So I am not sure if I am going to take songs from the 60s, 70s or 80s now.
In this post I am once again presenting a song from the decade of 1951-1960, which I came across just yesterday night and when I listened to it, I was totally taken away by this song. But a thought crossed my mind that should I keep for a later date?, but, no this song is perfect fit for today’s posting and this song says so much about Rafi Saab’s singing and the poetry in this song is also interesting which has a blend of a ‘child’s innocence’, a ‘playful mood’ and also it has the ‘philosophy of life’ in it.
In all the posts presented by me today so far we have not gone into the biographical details or about the personal stories, which we are aware about Rafi Saab, in these posts. In many of the earlier posts on the blog on such occasions all these discussions have already happened. And other than this blog much has already been written, read and discussed in print as well as digital media about Rafi Saab. In nowadays in the musical shows on TV channels where yesteryears’ music composers and actors frequently make a visit as a special guests also keep sharing much about Rafi Saab which was hitherto not known to us. But do we need to repeat all this? , our heart goes for Rafi Saab everyday with the music going around us. So even at some times when we could not exactly express what our ‘heart felts’ and could not speak ‘eloquently’ about Rafi Saab that does not mean that our love admiration for Rafi Saab has lessened down. We always feel him around us whenever we listened to the songs sung by him. And one will always find a Rafi song which he has not listened yet, and because normally we keep revisiting only those songs that are popular , known to us or those that are our favourites.
So in this post I am presenting this lesser heard or never heard song, which is a rare song and a gem of song. If the link of the song in this post is considered it is uploaded on the internet only few months back or precisely in Aug’2024. So, once again paying our tributes to this great singer and immortal voice I present this song from an unreleased movie ‘Chaand-1956’ (1951-1960). We have are highly grateful to the uploader of this song, without which it would not have been possible to discuss it here today.
As per information given in Geet Kosh Vol-III (App-I) the songs for this movie “Chaand” were recorded in 1956. There is no information available about the producer, director and cast of this movie. Its’ banner is mentioned as ‘A.R. Films, Bombay’. Geet Kosh lists four songs from this movie and leaving space for the possibility of more songs might have been recorded for this movie. Lyricist for this movie is Prem Dhawan and music is composed by Anil Biswas. Singers for this movie are Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Sudha Malhotra, and Shankar Dasgupta.
Listening to this song and noting it down for this presentation has made my day today. This songs seems to be in two parts, and the link has both of them.
